Gestalt Therapy
Gestalt Therapy is a holistic practice that honours our innate ability to heal and grow whatever our circumstances. It helps us become more fully alive and creative, free from barriers that hinder our potential.
The essence of Gestalt Therapy is to integrate parts of ourselves that are beyond our awareness and can disproportionately influence our lives. Gestalt therapists help us become aware of how we protect these parts of ourselves ~ with thinking and behaviour that used to be essential for our wellbeing; but now holds us back from positive choices, enriching relationships and rewarding lives.
Gestalt Therapy’s foundations can be described as:
Uniqueness
We are all distinctive ˜ what we bring to therapy is true for us ˜ there are no overarching set of psychological truths or rules we must abide by.
Connection
Conversation and contact with another person supports us to look at and deal with life’s challenges and issues.
Creativity
We can experiment with alternate ways of doing things that can assist us breaking through and making sense of issues.
Integration
The whole is greater than the sum of the parts. All parts of ourselves are interrelated ˜ physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. And we are all interconnected ˜ with each other, our communities and our planet.
